Stop Hunger Now

Date: Saturday, April 21, 2012
Time: -

STOP HUNGER NOW – On April 21, 2012, volunteers from our church will join with other United Methodist Churches around the Wetumpka area for a “Great Day of Service.” We will be working with an organization called Stop Hunger Now to package at least 30,000 meals for our underprivileged and starving brothers and
sisters all over the world. This Stop Hunger Now project was one we started in 2010, when we studied Fasting for Lent and raised over $2000 toward this cause. We still have these funds from that effort, and those will go towards this year’s Great Day of Service. This year, along with several other United Methodist churches (listed below) and those funds from 2010, we aim to raise at least $7,500 to purchase the materials to package 30,000 meals ($0.25 per meal). The more money we raise, the more meals we can package! On April 21, volunteers from our church, along with volunteers from other participating churches, will package those meals in our Family Life Center. Great Day of Service Participating churches: Trinity UMC (Weoka), Robinson Springs UMC, Mulder Memorial UMC, Cain’s Chapel UMC, Wallsboro UMC, and others. Children 4 and up are encouraged to attend with a parent or responsible adult.
What is STOP HUNGER NOW?   Bring the family to fill bags with rice, soy, and dehydrated vegetables to feed those in crisis-burdened areas and school feeding
programs around the world. Families are encouraged to register to pack together.   Donations are needed to pack 30,000 meals. Consider donating the cost of a meal
toward our $7500 goal. Mission of Hope in Haiti is just one of the many schools that provide
Stop Hunger Now’s meals for its school feeding program. After a year of documenting the difference it makes to feed a child at school, Mission of Hope had exciting statistics to share. The average weight for children outside the school not receiving the free lunch is 5 lb./year while children at Mission of Hope have an average weight gain of 10 lb./year. The GPA of children receiving meals is also
double that of children not being fed at school. What a difference a $.25 meal can make. Join others on April 21, 2012 in making a difference around the world.
